"A poor torn heart,
This latest work has been an exploration in surface and form. Finding myself drawn into the fluid texture of a hand built or sculpted piece, I have begun marrying the two techniques of throwing and sculpting. Initially, these vases were going to be more of a bottle form. But, as I added the slab top and began to create a hole in the top where I would later add a thrown neck I was immediately captured by the delicate and subtle openness of the torn neck I had created with my fingers and the serrated rib. Knowing when to stop...when it's beautiful just as it is. Slowing down and paying attention.
"Still, I believe the planet on the table, even when wounded and imperfect, fragmented and deprived, is worthy of being called whole."
